Terrence Higgins Trust
Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) was one of the first charities to be set up in response to the HIV epidemic and has been at the forefront of the fight against HIV and AIDS ever since.
We work across England and Wales to support people living with, affected by and at risk of HIV or poor sexual health. Our services include sexual health promotion, community based HIV and STI testing, counselling, peer support, skills training and advice services.
We also work closely with national Government and partner organisations, campaigning to raise public understanding and political support for people living with HIV.
Our objectives are:
Our Policy and Public Affairs team
Terrence Higgins Trust's Policy and Public Affairs team develops THT policy on a range of issues. Our policy work forms a framework that helps us provide effective services and supports our campaigns and lobbying.
We monitor the latest HIV and AIDS statistics, generate policy papers and publications, respond to Government consultation exercises, conduct research and work closely with Government agencies, UK HIV charities and other organisations to make sure that HIV issues receive the attention and action they deserve.
Campaigning with THT www.tht.org.uk/campaign
For more than 20 years, Terrence Higgins Trust has campaigned for greater public understanding of the personal, social and medical impact of HIV and AIDS. We work to combat stigma and prejudice, raise public awareness and promote good sexual health. Despite our successes, there is still a lot of work to be done and we can't do it without your support.
Our network of e-campaigners are an essential part of our work. You can join our e-campaign team by taking part in one of our campaigns and registering to tell your representatives how you feel about HIV and sexual health issues. A few moments of your time can make all the difference to the lives of people with HIV.
By choosing to become a THT campaigner you are adding your voice to those calling for better standards of sexual health treatment and promotion and a better quality of life for people affected by HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
Some messages from our e-campaigners…
“Just wanted to say that campaigning on behalf of THT is so easy to do.”
“It's such a worthwhile cause and you've managed to make it so simple to campaign on behalf of people in the world who need support.”
“Just wanted to say that it's great to get involved! And I'll keep pestering my MP about HIV issues.”
Ensuring Positive Futures
THT’s work within the Ensuring Positive Futures (EPF) Partnership includes both campaigning and lobbying, and provision of advice and support about issues connected with employment and HIV.
The policy team at the Terrence Higgins Trust are undertaking a new stream of lobbying to Parliamentarians, MPs and other key influencers. We are working closely with other EPF partners to increase the understanding of stigma, discrimination and employment issues faced by people living with HIV, both through our parliamentary lobbying and our e-campaigns.
We will be working with employers and employees to establish good practice and provide practical advice to help prevent prejudice in the workplace and discrimination in recruitment procedures.
Informed by clients’ experience, our aim is to both influence future legislation to protect the employment rights of PLWHIV, and to actively promote good employment practices that will prevent workplace discrimination happening in the first place. Workshops and briefings will be offered to clients, staff & volunteers in order to improve their transferable campaigning and lobbying skills and to ensure that everyone who works with us can influence the direction of lobbying via feedback and participation.
