Flags of the transnational partnership

Ensuring Positive Futures is part of a European Development partnership known as the Green Legged Chickens. We work with organisations in five other EU countries, in developing EU wide policies and programmes.

We aim to tackle discrimination that leads causes people to be disadvantaged in the workplace, or excluded from working.

Our main target group are those living with HIV, but some of our partners also focus on drug-users, people with mental health problems, and non-heterosexual or transgender people.

"We all work together to challenge the discrimination which causes people to be disadvantaged in relation to access to employment and in the actual workplace. Our target group is people living with HIV."

The Green Legged Chickens

The name ‘Green Legged Chickens’ comes from the work of our Polish partner. Eco-chance is a project, which supports people living with HIV by giving them the opportunity to work on environmental protection projects.

One of these involves the preservation of the Green Legged Chicken breed. This is a breed of chicken that is close to extinction. However with some nurture the Green Legged Chicken is once again becoming a viable breed.

What we do

People living with HIV want to work and contribute to the economy just like anyone else.

Prejudice and ignorance cause widespread discrimination, which in turn is a major barrier to employment to people living with HIV.

Cases of HIV are increasing in all EU member states, and beyond, and the problem of discrimination will only escalate if it is not confronted. This will have a knock on effect to the wider economy of member states, if people living with HIV continue to be excluded from employment opportunities.

Working with our partners across the EU means that we can share experiences, swap best practice and support and guide less experienced organisations especially in the newer member states.

For example our French partner has wide experience with Trades Unions, while here in the UK we have wide experience of working with employers. We have each developed programmes based on each others experience.

Working with our trans-national partners allows us to reduce duplication and waste. It also means we can share resources and knowledge and realise our full potential across the EU.
